There have been four histories of the Improved Order of the Red Men. This is the first official history.

 An association between the Mohawk Indians and the Anglican Church was first formed in the first decade of the 18th century, when Society for the Propagation of the Gospel missionaries occasionally braved the frontier wilderness to preach at Indian villages or castles.
